PDP Drums

Pacific Drums and Percussion or PDP for short is a subsidiary company under Drum Workshop established in the year 2000 to provide high quality drum equipment at lower prices to that of the prestige DW equipment. Their factory is located in Ensenada, Mexico and utilizes some of the same custom techniques as DW as well as computerized machinery to create high quality drums at reduced costs. Pacific Drums have now made DW's innovation and quality available to a larger market, while still maintaining the reputation of DW drums as high-end unique instruments.

Check out some of the models you can find in World of Music below:

X7
It’s no mystery why X7 is one of our top sellers. We created a F.A.S.T.™-sized all-maple beauty with a stunning lacquer finish and a host of top shelf features that was accessible to drummers everywhere. Not only do you get Remo heads, STM (Suspension Tom Mounts) and True Pitch™ Tuning, but you get a kit that is made to last. The set includes 7x8", 8x10", 9x12" rack toms, 12x14" and 14x16" floor toms, an 18x22" kick drum and a matching 5x14" snare drum.

We think every drummer should be able to play on a pro-quality drumset. That’s why we created the X7. The complete 7-piece kit comes in F.A.S.T. (fundamentally accurate sized toms) sizes with an18x22” kick drum, 5x14” snare, 7x8”, 8x10”, 9x12” 12x14” and 14x16” toms, as well as loads of pro features like STM mounts, Remo heads, True- Pitch Tuning System and eight killer sparkle lacquer finishes.

M5
The M5 is a breakthrough kit. Not because of a new technology or state-of-the-art innovation, but because it’s an all maple kit for an unheard-of price tag. So, why is maple the preferred material for drum making? Because of its inherent sonic qualities. Maple sounds warm, yet punchy, it projects and has pleasing tonal qualities that make it very musical. Drum manufacturers have been singing maple’s praises for decades, but it was only available to a select few. Now, every drummer can enjoy the sweet sound of maple and look good doing it. M5 five-piece kits include F.A.S.T™-sized 8x10" and 9x12" rack toms, 12x14" floor tom with legs, 18x22" kick drum and matching 5x14" snare drum. 7x8" and 14x16" add-on toms are also offered in each finish.

FS
Setting the drum world on its ear again, FS is a F.A.S.T™-sized all-birch set that features STM™ (Suspension Tom Mount), True Pitch™ Tuning and Remo heads. Birch is said to offer a brighter tone than maple, but still posseses the warmth and projection that also make it an excellent material for drum making. In fact, birch became very popular in the 80’s and has endured for more than two decades. FS comes with 8x10" and 9x12" rack toms, 12x14" floor tom on legs, 18x22" kick drum and matching 5x14" snare drum. 7x8" and 14x16" add-on toms are also available in all finishes.

Mainstage
The all-new Mainstage is a pre-configured entry level kit that includes drums, pedals, hardware, cymbals and even a throne. The drums feature hardwood construction in a durable wrapped finish. Sabian cymbals and a full hardware pack complete the rig. Drum sizes are 8x10" & 9x12" toms, 14x16" floor tom, 18x22" bass drum and 5x14" matching snare. The hardware pack includes a CB700 cymbal boom stand, CS700 straight cymbal stand, SS700 snare stand, HH700 hi-hat stand and a drum throne. The 4-piece cymbal pack includes 13" top and bottom hi-hats, 20" ride and 16" crash. Cymbals are included with kit in the US only. Other international markets may vary.

A World of Music Blogger Announcement

Hello Everyone.

You may have noticed a World of Music absence in blogger world. As much as you may think, this is not due to any global jet-setting or temporary imprisonment however. We've still been here at 809 Nepean Highway, Brighton East working away. And busy little workers we have been.

The front of the store is getting a makeover. It's currently at the half way point which has left us the big nameless orange building, but very shortly there'll be some big new signs that'll be sure to grab your eye when your driving down the highway toward the beach this summer.

We are now happy to say that we are proud dealers of some new brands such as Washburn Acoustic Guitars and PDP Drums. As well as a whole bunch of new stock from the usual suspects like Fender, Roland, Martin and many others.

So stay tuned. Make sure you keep an eye on this blog as there'll be plenty of posts coming up on everything thats been going on!

Introducing DVK Technologies Effects Pedals

DVK Technologies is a pedal producing project starring electronics maestro Craig Paine and SM Pro Audio’s Brett Kingman. Both gents play the guitar, Brett professionally and Craig probably better than Brett.

Through the years they have used a veritable ocean liner full of effects and have come to the conclusion that certain effects could be paired for both better sonic combinations and to help preserve that precious pedal board real estate. DVK are not trying to reinvent the wheel, they just want to streamline it a little.

Enter the new DVK Technologies range: a suite of models offering 2-in-1 solutions in reasonably sized cases and featuring useful peripherals such as expression control and circuit order switching. All of their circuits have been (re)designed from the ground up by the illustrious ‘Doc’ (Craig Paine) who has worked for nearly three years driven by the sonic demands of the rarely satisfied Mr Kingman. Although these are their own circuits, they have drawn our concepts from the best and are only too willing to acknowledge this. Oh yeah, thier own Tony Tran provides the fab eye candy and we’ll be featuring different themed cases as time goes by.

DVK have decided to keep the pedals green as well. That means no 9V batteries. For two reasons: firstly because there is so much circuitry jammed into these pedals that they couldn’t possibly fit a battery in there and secondly because they’re rotten little things filling up our landfills and if we can do without them we will. So we have.

Now please try one, enjoy it and make some music with it. That’s all we can ask.

Goldtop Fuzz/Vibe Pedal

THE GOLDTOP is a dual function pedal featuring DVK's take on a classic fuzz and vibe. The circuits can be engaged separately or used together for some great modulated fuzz tones. Additionally, they have provided a toggle switch that lets you change the stacking order of these effects - fuzz before vibe or visa versa. Some people prefer their fuzz before their vibe and others prefer it after so DVK thought they might as well give you the option to use whatever configuration you prefer.

The Mrs Compressor/Boost Pedal

THE MRS is a dual function pedal featuring a compressor and a booster. The Compressor can be used by itself or in combination with the boost. Its circuit is one of our own based on a few legendary compressors that we have admired and found useful in the past. It features a ‘norm/bright’ switch that, when switched to the ‘bright’ side, will give your sound bit more zing or top end. The Booster side will provide up to 25dB of gain (‘Level’ control) with the added bonus of a ‘Gain’ control to dial in a little drive or edge. Another feature of the booster side is the ‘Norm/Fat’ toggle switch, which, when engaged in the ‘Fat’ mode, will give your bottom and low mids a kick in the guts.

Silvertop Overdrive/Vibe Pedal

THE SILVERTOP is a dual function pedal featuring their take on a classic overdrive and vibe. The circuits can be engaged separately or used together for some great modulated drive tones. Additionally, DVK has provided a toggle switch that lets you change the stacking order of these effects - overdrive before vibe or visa versa. Some people prefer their overdrive before their vibe and others prefer it after so DVK has given you the option to use whatever configuration you prefer.

The Hairball Overdrive/Boost Pedal

THE HAIRBALL is a dual function pedal featuring a overdrive and a booster. Angry and aggressive all in one! The Hairball truly takes the concept of Overdrive & Boost as a combination to near insane levels. The drive is quite high in gain with a custom voiced tone circuit. It also cleans up nicely and responds well to your picking style and guitar volume setting. The boost is where things get a little crazy. Massive level increase is possible & you can select Full Range or Treble Boost to suit your taste. The Hairball – dedicated to gagging cats everywhere!

When it was introduced in 1951, Fender’s revolutionary Precision Bass guitar liberated musicians from the unwieldy confines of the upright bass, quickly becoming the preferred worldwide standard for tone, power and excellence. The Precision Bass has been booming ever since–six decades later, it’s still liberating musicians, still the worldwide standard and still the first word in electric bass.

Ben Rogers' Instrumental Asylum

If you've been in the store during the past week and heard a reverb heavy guitar instrumental track sprawling from the speakers, then chances are you were listening to Ben Rogers' Instrumental Asylum.

Ben Rogers’ Instrumental Asylum is Ben (guitar), Nikki Scarlett (bass) and Denis Close (drums).  Based in Melbourne, Australia, this high-energy, trio plays a mix of rocking reverb drenched surf/gypsy/Tarantino original compositions and instrumental standards that pay homage to their influences (Link Wray, Django Reinhardt, Ventures, Atlantics, Shadows, Duane Eddy), but with their own distinctive distorted twang and tough edge.

Instrumentally Disturbed -  The Third Album from Ben Rogers' Instrumental Asylum

More dynamic post-Tarantino surf-rock from Ben Rogers’ Instrumental Asylum!  Following the critically acclaimed debut album “Welcome to the Instrumental Asylum” and then “Reverb Rehab” (Top Roots Release of 2007 – Rhythms Magazine), comes “Instrumentally Disturbed” – a mix of the band’s latest compositions together with a frantic surf/garage version of The Exciters’ sixties hit Tell Him, a distortion-laden re-interpretation of Django Reinhardt’s last composition “Anouman”, and a rendition of the classic “La Mer” (Beyond the Sea).  Surf guitar legend Martin Cilia (The Atlantics) features on two tracks, as well as US drummer Al Kash (Commander Cody, Dave Hole, Savoy Brown, etc), who also guested on Reverb Rehab.

Head over to Ben's website to find out more information on where you can see them play and how you can buy their music.

In the meantime, check out this video which features a snippet from 'Kangaroux' - the opening track from the groups debut album 'Welcome to the Instrumental Asylum'.

The list of Martin players, past and present, reads like a Who's Who of the musical world and includes such legends as Elvis Presley, Paul McCartney, Eric Clapton, John Mayer and countless others.

Get One in Your Hands Today
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
SERIES OVERVIEW

X-Series - Martins breakthrough X series features guitars constructed with a combination of highly compresses wood fibres (High pressure laminate, called HPL) and traditional tonewoods. HPL is extremely durable and workable, and Martin have crafted ways to build traditional Martin shapes with HPL that produce incredibly long lasting and affordable guitars. What’s more is Martin have managed to build them so they possess that famous Martin sound and playability found in their more expensive guitars.

1-Series - The Martin 1 series was a pioneering breakthrough in the crafting of Martin guitars because it was the first to achieve the unique Martin sound, feel and look with tree-saving wood laminates. These instruments represent extraordinary value as well as Martins state-of-the-art acoustic guitar design. All of the 1 series guitars feature a new patented neck-to-body joint for a stress free neck, and let’s not forget Martins famous bridge string ramps to increase strength, tone and intonation.

Standard-Series - Martin launched the highly imitated standard series nearly a century ago and since then have set the standard for all modern acoustic guitars. The standard series started with the dreadnought, a shape that Martin first built in 1916 to provide a fuller, richer guitar sound at a time where there was no amplification. Dreadnoughts provided the perfect accompaniment for singers in larger settings including auditoriums. The standard series are known for resonant warmth of tone with tastefully restrained styling, for the most part Martin is credited with inventing these styles and shapes.

Special Edition Series From time to time Martin offers special edition models. Many of these have a limited production run, or begin as a limited-production guitar that sells well enough to become regularly produced. Many of these special models are designed with, endorsed by, and named after well-known guitarists such as Eric Clapton, Clarence White, Merle Haggard, Stephen Stills, Paul Simon, Arlo Guthrie and Johnny Cash

Performing Artist Series This series is larger than the 000/OM, but smaller than the 0000/M. Martin's new Performing Artist Series features the new Fishman F-1 Aura pickup system, with unobtrusive but powerful on-board controls. Martin has developed a new fast neck shape for the series and a smaller bridge for more top resonance. The pickup system blends the signal from a Martin Gold Plus transducer with one of 9 microphone sound images. Musicians have also praised the anti-feedback filter, with up to 3 notches, and a chromatic tuner.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
D28
D28 - The deep bass response of a D–28 was a very unusual feature to musicians used to the clear treble and overall balance of smaller "standard size" instruments. However, when the Dreadnought made its way into the hands of country music performers, it found an appreciative audience – it was just the item for backing up vocals, fiddles, and banjos in lieu of a bass instrument.

D45

D45 - The guitar produces vibrant tones, as the traditional Martin bracing pattern still exists in this model.  The high bracing allows for lead work as well as rhythm. First-rate East Indian rosewood produces a huge sound for an acoustic, ranging from deep bass notes to a clear, crisp treble that creates various sounds for many genres. One of the most beautiful and exquisite on the market, allowing musicians to produce inspired compositions and electrifying performances from an actual work of art.
OMJM

OMJM - The OMJM John Mayer Special Edition features a solid Engelmann spruce top with specially designed "hybrid" bracing that enhances the rich, full sound. Body appointments are also similar, with a Style 45 rosette featuring a centre ring of colourful paua (abalone) shell, bold herringbone around the top, grained ivory binding throughout and a traditional OM teardrop polished and bevelled tortoiseshell pickguard. To enhance the beauty of the wood, a specially formulated vintage "aging" toner is applied and then the polished nitrocellulose gloss lacquer completes the picture.

DCX1E
DX1 The DX1 features a solid spruce top combined with back and sides made of mahogany patterned High Pressure Laminate, a rounded Venetian cutaway. This guitar is extremely durable and possesses the famous Martin sound and playability found in Martins more expensive guitars. This model is also available with onboard electronic, Model DCX1E.

OMC1

OMC1E - Constructed from solid tone woods including a Sitka spruce top, book-matched Sapele back and sides, as well as an East Indian rosewood fingerboard and bridge, the OMC-1E creates that legendary rich and commanding Martin sound guitarists everywhere have come to know and love. The acoustic-electric guitar comes equipped with a Fishman Aero sound reinforcement system featuring volume and tone controls and an onboard digital chromatic tuner. Martin has created the 1-Series to deliver legendary Martin quality and tone at a more accessible price.

DC1E
DC1E The Martin DC-1E Dreadnought Acoustic-Electric Guitar from the 1-Series is an affordable, solid wood-bodied guitar, backed by Martin's heritage of over 175 years in skilled building excellence and a limited lifetime warranty. The DC-1E is the acoustic-Electric version of the D-1 featuring a rounded Venetian cutaway and onboard electronics. Martin has created the 1-Series to deliver legendary Martin quality and tone at a more accessible price.
